Berkana Farm's Jim and Mona

Have Over 15 Years Experiences

We have a certified Environmental farm in the beautiful Cariboo, where we raise all our own meat. From our farm we sell, pheasant, pork, peppermint tea, worm castings, Natures Gold and Bacta-Pur ®, for your gardening needs.

We are extremely proud to have our Environmental Farm Plan;
sign and the first farm in the Cariboo to get this certification. The proof of this certification is displayed on our sign, and shows that our farm meets and exceed all environmental requirements by the BC Agriculture Council. We gladly embrace this program as we absolutely believe in it and believe that this is how food and animals should be raised.

We care deeply for the environment and are committed to making a difference. One area that we are involved in is the invasive plant control and awareness programs.

We are very strong supporters of eating and buying locally. When we do have to buy food from the grocery store we buy produce from BC or Canada as long as it is available. We do not support the dumping practices that occur in grocery stores.

We compost all these waste items on the farm.

  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard
  • Tissue
  • Manure
  • Shavings
  • Trimmings
  • Organic scraps (vegetable scraps)

We have one building dedicated for the compost worms. In this building our manure is either composted by the worms, or in the compost bin. The worms provide us with castings that are invaluable for our gardens. Our composted manure is spread on the field to improve the grazing grass for the horses. The compost becomes a high quality, pesticide free fertilizer that helps us generate healthy and beautiful products every year.

On our farm, we have installed drip irrigation to all of our trees, shrubs & gardens, which helps us efficiently use and conserve water.

We have 2 horses that are very important to us. Ben is 12 years old, a quarter horse with a warm disposition. Jim Wright (Farm Owner) and Ben are two peas in a pod. Gemini is a 3 year old, mischievous Quarter Horse, with a curious disposition. Gemini and I are working on strengthening our bond. We plan on going on several horse camping trips this year with our two horses.

We also have a Great Pyrenees dog, Amigo, who spends all of her time with us. We live together, play together and rely on her guardianship. I think she has us very well trained.

When we are at home relaxing, we love to enjoy our yard by sitting in the swing and admiring our gardens. In our spare time, when we aren’t sitting on the swing we like to do things like build bird houses, or do some willow art, woodwork and other crafts.

Thank you for visiting our site! We hope to hear from you soon!
